Faster P.P.M.R (Positively Positive Movie Review)

Faster stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton and it follows a man, just released from prison, on a rampage to avenge his brother's killers. Simply put, this film is amazing! If you love high adrenaline and revenge movies you will love this.

Johnson plays his part perfectly as a man with a haunted past and he even shows moments of weakness and sensitivity that make you root for him even more. Most people wouldn't root for the killer but, under these circumstances, you find yourself in your seat going, "Get him! Kill that jerk-off!"

For the first time in a long time, I actually enjoyed Billy Bob Thornton in a role! I found him convincing as the police officer tracking Johnson and I loved the back story to his own tainted life. Also great was Carla Gugino who played Thornton's reluctant partner and she added even more depth to the story, especially with her last scene. I won't ruin the ending but she is great.

As usual, I guessed many of the plot points, but I found many people in the theater were surprised and this is because it isn't obvious. I only caught on because I was trained to catch every little bit in stories because they are placed for a reason. Expect many twists and turns and even some emotional heartbreak from this film!

For those that find violence and blood to make them a bit squeamish, see this film with a friend or significant other so you can grab onto them but don't let the blood deter you from seeing it. It is great.

Movie Rating: No Spoonfuls- No sugar needed to sweeten this review.

The Back-Up Plan P.P.M.R (Positively Positive Movie Review)

I mentioned I was lucky in my last review...to be honest I won't be so lucky with this movie. Don't get me wrong, I actually liked and enjoyed it, it just took me watching it twice for me for this to happen. With that said and done, let's get positive!

In The Back-up Plan, the acting was actually very good. Most people don't associate Jennifer Lopez with great acting but I tend to enjoy her and this movie is no exception. She portrays Zoe, a woman who is sick of never finding "the one" so she has herself artificially inseminated, only to find "the one" that same day. Also great is Hawaii 5-0 star Alex O'Loughlin, who plays Stan, who falls for pregnant Zoe before either of them realize she is pregnant. Once Zoe finds out she is pregnant and tells Stan, the question becomes "Will he stay?" There is also a great supporting cast of comedic splendor, including Anthony Anderson, who plays a father who helps Stan through his fears, and Melissa McCarthy, who plays the crazy midwife/support group leader for single mothers.

This movie is great at evoking emotions. It made me laugh and get all teary eyed but most of all it provoked anger and made me want to kick any man nearest me in the face...luckily the man nearest me was my father and I would never do that to him.I say I had to watch this movie twice, this is why. I'm staying positive by saying Alex O'Loughlin played an excellent jerk-off who constantly leaves or makes Zoe feel abandoned emotionally!

I have stated that I always have problems with plot structure. Well, if you want a movie with a few thrown in plot devices to push the movie along and make it more emotional, you got a great one! I am not saying the whole plot is this way but one plot point, Zoe's fear of commitment, is thrown in way too late to count and therefore Stan looks like the bad guy throughout most of the movie. This said, watching it a second time with this in mind will create much more enjoyment.I still wanted to beat the crap out of Stan every so often but not nearly as much as in my first viewing. Don't worry, he gets much sweeter at the end and we all know that one great gesture from a man can make up for a whole movie of emotional detachment and running scared. ;)

I would call this movie annoyingly wonderful yet charming.

Movie Rating- 3 Spoonfuls (Your sweet-tooth should be aching)

New P.P.M.R (Positively Positive Movie Reviews) Rating System

I've decided to add a rating system to my movie reviews. Much like the 5 star rating or the alphabet rating systems, this one will have five options. The only difference is the lower the score means the better the movie in these ratings. Here are the ratings:
No Spoonfuls- No sugar needed to sweeten this review.

1 Spoonful- We needed a little sugar-coating.

2 Spoonfuls-We could bake a cake.
3 Spoonfuls- Your sweet-tooth should be aching.

4 Spoonfuls- Go see a dentist, your teeth should be rotten now.

For those wondering, I did add a review to "Tangled" and it was a 1 Spoonful. Enjoy!

Tangled P.P.M.R (Positively Positive Movie Review)

Wow, I am lucky. For my first review I actually enjoyed the movie so I don't have to fictionalize my enthusiasm. I saw Tangled tonight with my boyfriend and some good friends and I loved it! This movie reminded me of the wonderful Disney films that I loved as a child. It's a great combination of the classic Princess Stories, among the likes of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, with the more modern Disney Princesses that kick butt like Belle, Jasmine, and Ariel. In my opinion, Rapunzel will join these Disney greats.

Tangled has everything every Disney Princess movie needs to excel: a Princess, her true love and an evil force trying to keep them apart. Combine this with some comic relieving side-kicks, in this case a chameleon and a horse, named Pascal and Maximus respectively, and you have a winner! In addition to this, it has my favorite addition to modern Disney Princess films: women characters standing up for themselves and those they love instead of always lying around, waiting for a man to save them...and they still get the man! It's win-win!

Let's say the soundtrack is no Beauty and the Beast but it's hard to beat those tunes. Still, the songs are catchy and had me swaying to the songs. Mandy Moore's voice sings beautifully from Rapunzel's mouth and, I don't want to give anything away but look forward to the bar song with the thugs!

This movie had a wonderful combination of comedy, romance and adventure and i would recommend it to anyone, young or old but especially to little girls who need a new princess to admire.

Rating- 1 Spoonful (We needed a little sugar-coating)

And So It Begins...

I have been told many times, by many people, that I should start a blog. I knew they were right and that blogging would help me get used to writing on a regular basis. So here we go: Welcome to the Land of Jill! Don't be frightened, we welcome all sorts here ;).  To begin my blog experience, as I am new to this, I will start with what I call "Positively Positive Movie Reviews." This segment will be movie reviews, of movies old and new, but here's the catch: they will only be positive! By this I don't mean that I will love every movie,  anyone who knows me knows that I love to pick movies apart. No, this segment will be me spinning the truth so that everything seems positive even if the movie is the worst thing I have ever seen created and I wonder how it ever managed to make it to film. As a girl with a BA in writing, I particularly like to tear apart plots so this will be a nice test on my patience. Sometimes a movie might be so bad that I have to dig really deep to find a way to make it sound nice; this will provide wonderful practice for my fiction writing skills :). As I get more used to this whole process I will delve deeper into other topics but I will keep my movie reviews going because movies are one of my many passions. What are my other passions? I guess you will just have to keep reading to find out!
